The Power of Five - Anthony Horowitz

Who are the old ones?

What terrible secrets are hidden in these pages?

If you like your spine to tingle, if you like stories that surprise, then read these.

Just keep the light on - that's all I'm saying.

The Sword in the Stone - T. H. White

Don't get this muddled with the cartoon version - they aren't aimed at the same audience.

This book is a classic. It tells the story of King Arthur's childhood, when he was known as Wart (to rhyme with art). His life is a journey into the unknown. Luckily, he has Merlin as a guide.

There's magic, mystery and excitement.

Don't miss out!

Private Peaceful - Michael Morpurgo

Michael Morpurgo does it yet again.

An enthralling journey through the battlefields of World War I. There is a lot of suspense here but it isn't a simple adventure.

This book takes you back in time and plunges you into the nightmare of trench warfare.

The plot is intriguing and the ending will really make you think.

Alex Rider Books - Anthony Horowitz

If you haven't heard of Alex Rider yet then you need to get reading!

Just saying that Alex is a teenage James Bond does not do these books justice. They make James Bond look slow! And it's definitely a case of the book being better than the film.

These stories are gritty, gripping and above all, great fun. There's plenty of action throughout and something to grab your attention on every single page.

Alex is a great hero, but what really makes these stories thrilling are the villains.

Find out what everyone has been talking about. Catch the Alex Rider buzz!

Mortal Engines - Philip Reeve

If you're looking for something completely new, then look no further.

Imagine if cities could move. Not just a few buildings, but whole cities - giant structures lumbering across the landscape, churning the earth with their massive wheels or gargantuan tracks.

Imagine that bigger cities survive by preying on smaller ones. Put yourself aboard London. Feel the deckplates shudder beneath your feet as your home hurtles to devour a smaller city.

Then imagine the fear if you were to fall from your city. You've lost everything. Your hero has tried to kill you. You are thrust onto the wrecked surface. And with you - a strange, disfigured girl. The girl you were trying to catch. The girl who has just attempted to murder someone.

A fast and complex adventure. Masses of action. Superb characters. Twists and turns.

What more could you want?

The Midnight Fox - Betsy Byars

A story for everyone. It's not just about animals and there's nothing soppy about this book. There's tension, excitement and lots of humour.

Tom doesn't want his parents to go on holiday without him. And he doesn't want to go to stay on his aunt's farm - especially since he's afraid of animals. In fact, Tom has a lot of fears.

But all that is set to change.

What is the midnight fox? What will happen when Aunt Millie's chickens are eaten? And how will Tom cope on his own?

To find out, read the Midnight Fox.

The Giggler Treatment - Roddy Doyle

If this book doesn't make you laugh, then pinch yourself because you're still asleep.
